American University Professor Larry Engel and Professor Kiho Kim took 12 students to Cuba from March 5 to March 12 as part of the 2016 AU Scholar’s program.
During the first semester in the AU Scholars Program, students participate in a seminar course and lab. Seminar topics range from marine environment to visual literacy.
Throughout the second semester, students partake in a Spring Research Course where they carry out a faculty-led research project while collaborating with classmates.
The students explored the relationship between Cubans and their environment. They captured a brief moment in time more than five decades into communist rule and two weeks before President Barack Obama traveled to the island nation.
These are the conversations they shared.
